Job summary

SSE invites applicants to join SSEN Transmission in Scotland on a 24-month development programme to become a Power System Engineer, including a 10-week specialist training and three rotation placements in planning and operations. You'll learn power system studies using PowerFactory and PSCAD, supported by academic training and high-performance computing resources.

Successful candidates will hold an engineering degree, show strong analytical ability and teamwork, and be based from Scottish

Qualifications

  • For this programme, a MEng is preferred; a 2:2 BEng in engineering or a science discipline is acceptable.
  • Strong maths and analytical ability with data interpretation from simulations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in early design stages.

Responsibilities

  • Develop skills to carry out system studies, assess planning and development of the Transmission network.
  • Learn to evaluate network performance and identify options to maintain or enhance capabilities.
  • Support engineering teams and Transmission Control Centre with recommendations for network improvements.
  • Carry out simulations and studies including power flow, fault level, voltage, thermal capability, and stability.
  • Model the SSEN Transmission system accurately and manage data for detailed analysis.
