Job summary

Royal Mail Group is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Romsey for a fixed-term contract. You will sort mail, deliver by van and on foot, and build strong relationships with customers while working outdoors across a 30-hour week schedule.

The role includes weekends and some Sundays rotation at Totton Delivery Office. The position requires a full manual UK driving licence, fitness for walking long distances, and the ability to work independently in all weather conditions.

Location: Romsey DO, SO51 8XA

Job type: Fixed Term contract(6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 30 hours per week - working (5) days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 08.30/14.45*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work 1 in 6 Sundays at Totton Delivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
