Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Basingstoke is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to join our delivery team at the Basingstoke Delivery Office. This permanent role offers 30 hours per week across Monday to Sunday, with a 08:30–15:30 schedule and weekend work on a rotating rota.

You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, build relationships with customers, and work outdoors in all weather. A full manual UK driving licence and the ability to pass a driving assessment are required.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 08:30/15:30*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You'll be required to work 4 out of 6 Sundays at BasingstokeDelivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self‑motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
