Job summary

Royal Mail in Fareham is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed term contract for 6 months. The role offers 30 hours per week across Monday to Sunday, with shifts 14:30 to 21:00 and overtime available.

You’ll deliver letters and parcels in the Fareham area, working outdoors and building relationships with customers. You'll need a full manual UK driving licence (up to 6 penalty points), be physically fit to walk long distances, and enjoy working independently on a rotating schedule

Qualifications

Location: Fareham Delivery Office, PO14 1RH

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 14:30/21:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
