Job summary

Royal Mail Wigton Delivery Office in Wigton is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 9-month contract. You'll deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot in your local area, with a rotating shift including weekends and a 28-hour week.

Full training provided, a uniform, and a reliable, active role outdoors in all weather. A full UK manual driving licence (max 6 penalty points) is required, plus the ability to pass a driving assessment.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence required with up to 6 penalty points.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift 10kg+ mailbags.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 28:00 hours per week – Monday - Saturday with rotating day off – 07:00/14:44*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
