Job summary

Royal Mail Group is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Truro for a fixed-term contract of 6 months. The role is 25 hours per week with rotating shifts, including some weekends, and involves outdoor delivery of letters and parcels.

You will learn routes, perform daily deliveries by van and on foot, and build relationships with customers while working in all weather. A full manual UK driving licence is required.

Location: Truro Delivery Office, TR1 1AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract(6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 25.00 hours per week - working 5 days in 6 across Monday - Saturday -11:00 -16:00

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently

As a Postie, you’re expected to securely deliver all items on your route, including handling and delivering election materials and certain items (such as food products or alcohol) in line with Royal Mail business standards.
