Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) at Torpoint Delivery Office for a 9‑month fixed-term contract. You will work 37 hours per week across a 5-day-in-7 rota, delivering letters and parcels by van and on foot in Torpoint, with full training provided.

You need a full manual UK driving licence (max 6 points), be physically fit to walk long distances and lift mailbags, and enjoy delivering great service in all weather.

Location: Torpoint Delivery Office, PL11 2TB Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 37:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:30/15:15*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
