Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Plymouth is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed term contract to join West Park Delivery Office. You will deliver letters and parcels, work on a 30-hour week across 4/5 days, including Sundays, and follow a rotating shift pattern.

Thrive outdoors, be active, and provide excellent customer service while handling a high volume of mail and packages with full training provided.

Qualifications

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 30:00hours per week - working 4/5days over 7 across Monday - Sunday - 07:20/18:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Plymouth Mail Centre.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
