Job summary

Royal Mail, based in Penzance, is recruiting a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to join the team on a fixed-term contract of 9 months. The role involves delivering letters and parcels from the Penzance Delivery Office, working outdoors, and joining a rotating shift schedule including weekends.

Training is provided, with a focus on safety and customer service. You will walk, drive a Royal Mail van, and handle items in all weather conditions, following delivery routes and service standards.

Qualifications

Location: Penzance Delivery Office, TR18 2NY

Job type: Fixed Term contract, 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 28:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 08:00/20:00*

Supporting two separate shifts, either 08:00 -15:30 Letter Deliveries or 10:30 - 19:30 / 14: 30 - 20:00 Parcel Deliveries

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

Due to operational demand, you may be required to work occasional Sundays throughout peak periods.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
