Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Torpoint is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a 9‑month fixed term contract. The role involves delivering letters and parcels, sorting mail, and working outdoors on a 37-hour week across a rotating shift including weekends.

A full manual UK driving licence is required, and driving a Royal Mail van daily will be expected. You will build relationships with customers, work independently, and stay active while serving the community.

Location: Torpoint Delivery Office, PL11 2TB

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 37:00hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 07:30/15:15*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You may be required to work Sundays.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
