Job summary

Royal Mail in Sheffield is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a 9-month fixed-term contract. You’ll deliver letters and parcels in your local area, using a Royal Mail van, and work on a rotating shift with weekends.

You will need a full manual UK driving licence (max 6 points) and be physically fit for long walks, with training and a uniform provided. The role includes pension and wellbeing support, and opportunities to earn overtime.

Location: Sheffield North Delivery Office, S6 2NT

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 08:00-14:00 / 14:00-20:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work 11:00-17:00 Sundays on a rota basis.

You’ll deliver more than just mail: exam results, birthday cards, business orders, and moments that matter.**

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
