Job summary

Royal Mail Group is seeking a delivery driver (Postie) in Sutton Coldfield. You will sort mail, deliver by van and on foot, and build relationships with customers in the local area. The role is outdoors and fast-paced, with weekend work on a rotating schedule.

The position offers full training, a uniform, and a role aligned with community service. A full UK driving licence is required, and you must be willing to pass a driving assessment and work across shifts.

Qualifications

• Must hold a full manual UK driving licence.

• Physically fit to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift 10 kg+ mailbags.

Job description

Location: Sutton Coldfield Delivery Office, B73 6AG

Job type: Fixed Termcontract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30:00hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday -08:00/15:00* Wednesdays are from 08:00 to 15:30.

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You'll be required to work Sundays on a roational basis.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
