Royal Mail Group in Newtown is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to deliver letters and parcels on a 30-hour weekly schedule. The role is a fixed-term contract for 6 months and includes outdoor work, weekend shifts, and paid overtime where available.

Location: Newtown Delivery Office, SY16 1AG

Job type: Fixed Term contract for 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30:00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - shifts ranging from 09:00am-15:00pm up to 13:00pm-19:00pm*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand so you will need to be flexible regarding start and finish times.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
