Job summary

Royal Mail in Newtownabbey is seeking a Postal Delivery Driver on a fixed-term contract for 9 months. You will deliver letters and parcels, walk long distances, and work outdoors across a 31.5 hour week on a rotating shift.

With full training, a uniform, and a Royal Mail van, you’ll be part of a trusted service that connects communities. The role requires a full manual UK driving licence and the ability to pass a driving assessment.

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 31:30hours per week – working 5 days in 6 across Monday - Saturday – 07:45/15:35*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Working in all weather conditions

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
