Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Henfield to deliver letters and parcels on a rotating 35-hour week schedule. The role is a fixed-term contract for 6 months with overtime opportunities and a daily outdoor delivery routine.

You will sort mail, deliver by van and on foot, and build relationships with customers across various weather conditions. The position requires a full manual UK driving licence and the ability to pass a driving assessment.

Location: Henfield DO, BN5 9ZZ

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 35 hours per week – working (5) days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:30/15:00* - flexibility to work up to 18:00 during peak times.

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work 1 in 6 Sundays at Burgess Delivery Office, between 08:30 and 16:30.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
