Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Ludlow is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a fixed term 6-month contract. You’ll sort letters, deliver by van and on foot, and build relationships with customers in your local area.

The role requires a full manual UK driving licence, willingness to drive a Royal Mail van, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather. You’ll join a busy, active team with weekend work on a rotating schedule and 30 hours per week across five days in seven.

Location: Ludlow Delivery Office, SY8 1DD

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 08:25/17:45*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
