Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Newtownabbey for a fixed-term 9-month contract. The role is 31.5 hours per week on a rotating schedule, Monday to Saturday, with overtime available. Salary is £13.68 per hour, paid monthly.

You will sort and deliver letters and parcels, drive a Royal Mail van, and serve customers outdoors in all weather. A full manual UK driving license (up to 6 penalty points) is required, and training is provided.

• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift/carry mailbags

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
