Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Postie in Newport Pagnell to deliver letters and parcels, using a Royal Mail van and on foot, across a local route. You will work outdoors in all weathers and build relationships with customers, contributing to reliable community service.

The role is a fixed term contract for 12 months, with 37 hours per week and weekend work on a rotating shift pattern. Training and a uniform are provided.

Qualifications

Job type: Fixed Term contract (12 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 37 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday 07:00/16:00

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand. You’ll be required to work Sundays in the Milton Keynes area.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast‑paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time‑pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and ability to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs/hills, and lifting/carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self‑motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer‑focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
