Royal Mail Group in Hengoed is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 6-month contract. You will deliver letters and parcels, work across a 30-hour week with rotating shifts, and meet customers while working outdoors in all weather. Training, a uniform, and a red Royal Mail van are provided.

Expect some weekend work and a driving assessment; a full UK manual licence is required. Overtime may be available and paid monthly.

Location: Hengoed Delivery Office, CF82 7YY

Job type: Fixed Termcontract, 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30hours per week - working 9 day fortnight, 4/5 days out of 7 days, across Monday to Sunday - working between 09:30/19:00* Supporting two separate shifts between 09:30 - 16:00 or 13:00 - 19:00 for Letter Deliveries & Parcel Deliveries

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You'll be required to work one in two Sundays, working between 12:00 - 18:00 at Pontypridd Delivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
