Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Merthyr Tydfil is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 6-month contract. You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, building relationships with customers and working outdoors in all weathers.

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, 30 hours per week over five days, including weekends and 2/4 Sundays. Full training, a uniform and a red Royal Mail van are provided to help you settle in.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points).
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, lift 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable and self-motivated.
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment.
• Customer-focused with pride in delivering great service.
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently.

Location: Merthyr Tydfil Delivery Office, CF47 0AZ

Job type: Fixed Termcontract, 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30:00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - supporting two separate shifts between 07:00/18:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work 2/4 Sundays at Merthyr Tydfil Delivery Office.

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags

• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
