Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Neath to deliver letters and parcels, outdoors in all weather, and to stay active while serving the local community.

The role includes a rotating shift schedule with weekend work; training provided, and a uniform plus a red Royal Mail van. You’ll need a full UK driving licence and be comfortable walking long distances.

Location: Neath Delivery Office, SA11 1LT

Job type: Fixed Term contract for six months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 30:00 hours per week - working 6days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 09:00/15:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays on an ad hoc basis at Swansea Mail Centre.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
