Job summary

Royal Mail in Hengoed is recruiting a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a fixed-term 6‑month contract. You will deliver letters and parcels, sort mail at the delivery office, and build relationships with customers across your local area. The role is outdoors, physically active, and involves a rotating shift pattern with weekend work.

You’ll need a full manual UK driving licence, be able to pass a driving assessment, and be self-motivated and reliable. Training provided.

Job type: Fixed Termcontract, 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.Working hours: 30hours per week – working 9 day fortnight, 4/5 days out of 7 days, across Monday to Sunday – working between 09:30/19:00

• Supporting two separate shifts between 09:30

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work one in two Sundays, working between 12:00

• 18:00 at Pontypridd Delivery Office.

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self‑motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer‑focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
