Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Coleford to deliver letters and parcels. The role involves a 30-hour week across 5 days, with some weekend and Sunday shifts at the Lydney Delivery Office. You will work outdoors in all weather and drive a Royal Mail van daily after training.

The position is fixed term for 9 months, with full training provided and a focus on community service and reliability.

Location: Coleford DO, GL16 8HD Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 30 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:00/16:30* Looking for a delivery driver job where you can stay active, connected to your community, and enjoy great benefits? You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work one in four Sundays at Lydney Delivery Office working between 11:00/17:30

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
