Job summary

Royal Mail in Cambridge is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a 9-month fixed-term contract. You will deliver letters and parcels in Cambridge, walking and driving a Royal Mail van, on a rotating shift including Sundays. You will sort mail, build relationships with customers, and work outdoors in all kinds of weather.

Full training, a uniform, and a red Royal Mail van are provided. A full manual UK driving licence is required and you must be physically fit for long walking and lifting

Qualifications

• Must be physically fit for walking long distances and lifting 10 kg+ bags.
• Full manual UK driving licence required (no more than 6 penalty points).
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.

Location: Cambridge Delivery Office, CB1 7QQ

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour * (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07.30/16.00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand. You’ll be required to work Sundays at Cambridge Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self‑motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
