Job summary

Royal Mail in Didcot is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 6-month contract. You’ll deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, face varying weather, and work across a rotating shift including weekends.

The role requires a full manual UK driving licence, physical fitness to walk long distances, and strong customer focus. Training is provided, with a uniform and a red Royal Mail van.

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 37hours per week – working (5) days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:29/15:59*

Please note: Flexibility is required as you may be required to work up to 18:00 when needed

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work 1 in 6 Sundays at Didcot Delivery Office Delivery Office.

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
