Job summary

Royal Mail in Trowbridge is seeking a Postie (Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 9-month contract. You will be out delivering letters and parcels, and you'll represent the company in the community.

You’ll work 30 hours per week on a rotating shift, including some weekends and Sundays. Full training is provided, with overtime available and a competitive hourly rate of £13.68.

Qualifications

• Full UK manual driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points).
• Able to pass a Royal Mail driving assessment.
• Physically fit for long walks and lifting 10kg+.
• Reliable, self-motivated and organised.
• Customer-focused with good communication.

Responsibilities

Location: Trowbridge Delivery Office, BA14 8DA

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 08:30-15:30 and 14:00-20:00* flexibilty is required.

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work three in four Sundays at Trowbridge Delivery Office working between 13:30-19:30

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
