Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Sunderland. The role involves sorting letters and parcels, delivering by van and on foot, and building relationships with customers in the local area.

You will work a rotating shift, 25 hours per week, across 5 days in 7, including Sundays. The job is fixed-term, outdoors, and physically demanding, with training provided and a uniform supplied.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points).

Location: Sunderland Delivery Office, SR5 2TG

Job type: Fixed Term

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 25 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – Between 09:30 and 15:00/Between 15:00 and 20:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays as per the rota.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
