Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Sunderland is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a 25-hour-per-week fixed-term contract at Sunderland Delivery Office. You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, working a rotating schedule that includes Sundays; training and a uniform are provided.

You must hold a full manual UK driving licence (max 6 points), be physically fit for long walking distances, and enjoy working outdoors and independently.

Location: Sunderland Delivery Office, SR5 2TG

Job type: Fixed Termcontract(6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 25:00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 15:00/20:00*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
