Job summary

Royal Mail in Darlington is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to deliver letters and parcels across the local area. The role involves a 20-hour week on a rotating schedule from 15:00 to 19:00, with weekends and overtime on occasion, and a requirement to pass a driving assessment in a red Royal Mail van.

Location: Darlington Delivery Office, DL1 1AA

Job type: Permanent contract

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 20hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 15:00/19:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays as per the rota

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
