Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Durham is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to join our trusted team. This permanent, part-time role involves delivering letters and parcels by van and on foot, building relationships with customers, and working outdoors in all weather.

You'll rotate shifts across 5 days in 7, including Sundays, with full training provided and a uniform. The position offers overtime, a pension, and wellbeing support.

Location: Durham Delivery Office, DH1 1SE

Job type: Permanent contract

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 27.5 hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 09:30 - 14:30/14:30 - 20:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at DurhamDelivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
