Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Smethwick for a fixed-term 12‑month period. You will sort and deliver letters and parcels, travel by van and on foot, and build strong customer relationships in your local area. Rotating shifts include weekends; full training and a uniform are provided.

The role is outdoors, active, and requires driving a Royal Mail van daily. A full UK driving licence is essential, with up to six penalty points accepted, and the ability to work in all

Location: Smethwick Delivery Office, B67 7AB

Job type: Fixed Term contract 12 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 08:00 - 14:15/08:00 - 14:45 - Wednesday Only*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Coombs Wood Delivery Office.

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
