Royal Mail Group in Smethwick is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a fixed-term 12-month role. You will sort and deliver letters and parcels in your local area, using a Royal Mail van on a rotating schedule.

This role is outdoors, requires a full manual UK driving licence, and weekend work. You'll join a supportive team with comprehensive training, uniform, and benefits. Expect to handle high volumes with reliability and customer focus.

Job type: Fixed Termcontract 12 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30:00hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday -08:00 - 14:15/08:00 - 14:45 - Wednesday Only*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Coombs Wood Delivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
