Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Sutton is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a fixed-term six-month contract. You will deliver letters and parcels in Sutton, join a rotating shift, and work 30 hours per week across Monday to Sunday, with overtime available.

Expect to walk long distances, drive a Royal Mail van, and deliver with care in all weather. Full training and a uniform are provided, and Sundays are required at Sutton Delivery Office.

Qualifications

Location: Sutton Delivery Office, SM1 1AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £16.24 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30:00 hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 08:30/14:30

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
