Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Shepton Mallet is hiring a part‑time Postie to deliver letters and parcels in the local area. You will sort mail at the delivery office, and then deliver by van and on foot, building relationships with customers while working outdoors in all weather.

Rotating shifts include weekends; you will work 30 hours per week across 5 days, with full training provided and a strong emphasis on community service and reliability.

Location: Shepton Mallet Delivery Office, BA4 5BB

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday – Sunday - 08:00/14:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work one in four Sundays at Wells Delivery Office. 12:00/18:30

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast‑paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time‑pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self‑motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer‑focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
