Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Harrogate to deliver letters and parcels on a 30-hour week, across a 5-day rota, with a fixed-term contract for 9 months. You will sort at the delivery office, drive a Royal Mail van, and walk routes in all weathers while engaging with customers.

Training is provided, and you'll work outdoors with a supportive team. The role involves weekend shifts and a structured, varied daily routine.

Location: Harrogate Delivery Office, HG1 4EE

Job type: Fixed Term contract (09 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 09:00/19:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
