Job summary

Royal Mail is recruiting a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for Tavistock. The role covers delivering letters and parcels with a daily 30-hour rota across a 5-days-in-7 pattern on a rotating schedule, including some weekends. You’ll work outdoors, in all weather, and represent a trusted national brand within your community.

Full training and a uniform are provided. A valid manual UK licence is required, and the job offers good pension and wellbeing support plus family-friendly policies.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points) registered to your name/address.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances and lift 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable, self-motivated and customer-focused with good organisation.

Job type: Fixed Termcontract, 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.Working hours: 30:00hours per week – working 5days in 7 across Monday

• Sunday – 07:45/20:00
• Supporting two separate shifts, either 07:45
• 16:00 Letter Deliveries or 14:00
• 20:00 Parcel Deliveries.

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You may be required to work Sundays due to operational demand, however this is not a current requirement at this Delivery Office.

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently

**As a Postie, you’re expected to securely deliver all items on your route, including handling and delivering election materials and certain items (such as food products or alcohol) in line with Royal Mail business standards.
