Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Ripon is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a 9-month fixed-term contract. You’ll work 30 hours per week across a 5-in-7 rota, 9:00-15:40, delivering letters and parcels by van and on foot.

Full training provided, a uniform, a red Royal Mail van, and opportunities to develop. You’ll need a full manual UK driving licence, be physically fit for walking long distances, and enjoy working outdoors and independently.

• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift/carry 10kg+ mailbags

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30.00hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday -9:00-15:40*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
