This position offers a unique opportunity for those looking to advance their skills in a supportive environment while contributing to essential healthcare services in the region.
This post is aimed at post CCT Paediatricians who wish to improve their skills in paediatric gastroenterology. The applicant should have MBBCh and MRCPCH or equivalent and have completed at least 6 months in a recognised training post in paediatric gastroenterology. The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team involved in running a regional Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition service and provide tertiary care to North and West Yorkshire.
The post holder will be involved in the day‑to‑day management of inpatients, lead ward rounds, see patients in outpatient clinics and as day cases, organise the weekly multidisciplinary meetings and ensure that discussions are documented. The role also includes coordinating the junior doctor team, further training in practical procedures such as endoscopy and colonoscopy, close supervision by consultants, and regular opportunities for clinical teaching. Participation in medical audit and research projects is expected.
The department provides expertise in the management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), intestinal failure (IF), enteral tube‑fed patients, chronic constipation, dysmotility, functional GI disorders, eosinophilic GI disorders and GI problems in children with neurodisability. We provide onsite GI consultant assessments for a broad range of paediatric subspecialties and the ward has 16 beds shared between gastroenterology and general paediatrics. Sub‑specialty clinics include IBD, IF, coeliac disease, dysmotility, general gastroenterology and transition clinics for IBD and IF. Weekly MDTs cover IBD, IF, gastro‑surgical and radiology, with fortnightly histology MDTs, and teaching sessions from all MDT members.
