Job description
Polisher / Fettler Nights – Manufacturing (Basildon)

We are currently recruiting a Polisher / Fettler to join our fast‑paced manufacturing team at our Basildon site. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long‑term career in manufacturing, with full training provided.

Key Responsibilities
  • Polishing and fettling components to a high‑quality standard
  • Working efficiently within a busy production environment
  • Following health & safety and quality procedures
  • Supporting the manufacturing team to meet production targets
Working Hours (39 hours per week)

Monday – Thursday: 19:30pm – 04:30am
Friday: 14:30pm – 19:30pm

Pay Rate

£14.06 per hour + 33% Shift allowance

Purpose of role and key accountabilities
  • To carry out deburring/polishing of parts for the aerospace industry in a machine shop environment.
  • Removing burrs and sharp edges using files, scrapers and rotary tools.
  • Grinding/polishing materials to drawing requirements using air/hand tools to achieve the required finish.
  • Light polishing of various steel and aluminium components.
  • Visual inspection of completed products.
  • Completing appropriate documentation.
  • Working to ISO 50001/14001/45001/9001 standards.
  • Supporting the Energy team and considering energy reduction and savings within the scope of your role, leading to continuous improvement.
Core skills/attributes needed
  • Ability to work from a list and take verbal instructions.
  • Ability to stand/sit for long periods and be physically fit to carry out the role.
  • Ability to carry out repetitive work and must have an honest and motivated approach to work undertaken.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be available to work overtime as and when required.
  • Must have excellent hand‑eye coordination.
  • Must be able to work with measuring/inspection equipment.
Supporting the SQCDP framework of the wider Gardner business
