Job Description:

We are a well-established, reputable, busy firm of solicitors based in Cardiff city centre, specialising in criminal and prison law and seek an ambitious, hardworking Accredited Police Station Representative (APSR) or Case Worker to provide case preparation, advice and support across all departments (Police station, Magistrates and Crown court).

Some knowledge or experience (through education or work record) in criminal law is necessary, however further training will be provided. It would be preferable if the successful candidate had achieved their APSR qualification, but it is not essential, provided the successful candidate is willing to work towards achieving that on commencement of employment.

Please note: A full driving licence and use of own car is required for this role due to travel required.

Main Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring current knowledge of all areas of criminal law
  • Undertake legal research when required.
  • Advising clients on the law, evidence and sentencing guidelines applicable to their case under the supervision of the supervising solicitor.
  • Preparing all documents necessary for the criminal justice process (statements, defence case statement, legal arguments etc) under the supervision of the supervising solicitor.
  • Assisting admitted staff in all aspects of the case preparation and court hearings, including submitting legal aid applications.
  • Representing clients at the Police station if APSR qualified, including on weekly out of hours rota.
  • Maintaining accurate case records and time recording, compliance with LAA contract and LEXCEL quality mark, also ensuring clients remain updated on their case progression.
  • You will work under the instruction of admitted staff.
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and written
  • Strong IT skills and literacy

Hours:

This is a full-time and permanent position: Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm.

TBC (depending on experience & qualifications) plus overtime for Police station attendance out of hours (if APSR).
