Job summary

Skipton Building Society is seeking a Principal Engineer for Core Banking to set technical direction, establish tenets and foundations that engineers rely on. You’ll guide squads across savings, mortgages and transaction processing, delivering small, safe changes while maintaining stability and compliance.

You will shape platform‑wide strategy, enable product teams to move faster with paved roads, Golden Path pipelines, observability and secure environments.

Qualifications

• High‑integrity, high‑performance delivery across core banking platforms.
• Experience with CI/CD, observability and secure‑by‑design practices.
• Strong collaboration with Architecture, Security, QE and Risk.
• Proven ability to simplify complex systems and guide modernization.
• Outcome‑focused mindset backed by operational data.

Responsibilities

• Define and scale the Golden Path for Core Banking with secure pipelines.
• Architect for reliability, observability and contractual boundaries.
• Shift left on quality, embedding checks into CI.
• Lead platform modernisation and reduce technical debt.
• Improve operational excellence with telemetry and incident reviews.
• Coach engineers and publish reusable templates.
• Work backwards from member outcomes to simplify workflows.
