Job summary

Skipton Building Society is seeking a Principal Engineer for the Member Experience Platform (App, Portal & Identity). You will shape engineering tenets, paved roads and delivery practices across Mobile App, Portal and Identity services to enable small, safe, frequent changes with high reliability.

You will lead a cohort of engineers, raise the hiring bar and foster a high‑performing culture in partnership with Platform Owner.

Qualifications

• Proven leadership in high‑performance delivery (VFQ excellence).
• Expertise in secure‑by‑design, cloud‑native architecture and distributed systems.
• Ability to build things that align with member journeys using data.
• Experience coaching engineers, leading Communities of Practice and hiring.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction, tenets and paved roads for the MEP.
• Define Golden Path for CI/CD pipelines, feature flags and progressive delivery.
• Collaborate with Architecture, DevSecOps, Environments, Release & Deployment, Quality Engineering.
• Coach Staff/Senior Engineers and raise the hiring bar; champion engineering culture.
• Drive a 1–3 year modernization roadmap and secure-by-design foundations.
