Job summary

A recruitment agency is looking for a PIP1 Investigator to support the Hotspot Policing Scheme in Barnstaple and Bideford. The role involves conducting investigations, gathering evidence, and preparing case files. Ideal candidates will have PIP Level 1 accreditation and recent experience with Devon and Cornwall Police. PIP1 Investigator

Location: Bideford & Barnstaple Police Stations
Contract: 3 month contract with likely extension
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday-Friday)
Pay Rate: £22.91LTD per hour

About the Role

Devon and Cornwall Police are recruiting a Police Staff Investigator (PIP1) to support the Hotspot Policing Scheme in North Devon. This scheme targets persistent offenders and crime and disorder within identified hotspot locations in Barnstaple and Bideford town centres. You will work as part of the Neighbourhood Policing Teams, supporting investigation activity that protects the vulnerable, reduces harm, and brings offenders to justice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct PIP Level 1 investigations in line with legislation, Force policy and PIP standards
  • Obtain evidential witness statements and gather evidence including CCTV and exhibits
  • Prepare and support case files through to charge and court
  • Interview suspects and witnesses in accordance with legal and procedural requirements
  • Manage safeguarding, risk, and vulnerability, ensuring victims receive appropriate support
  • Maintain regular contact with victims and witnesses in line with the Victims' Code
  • Work collaboratively with Neighbourhood Policing Teams and partner agencies
  • Support hotspot-focused problem solving and harm-reduction activity
Essential skills and experience
  • PIP Level 1 accreditation
  • Recent experience working within Devon and Cornwall Police
  • Experience taking witness statements and gathering evidence
  • Experience supporting case file preparation (NICHE experience desirable)
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence (reasonable adjustments considered)
  • Experience of complex information gathering and problem solving
  • Ability to deliver work to tight timescales
  • A good understanding of the criminal justice system
  • A thorough, methodical, and professional approach
