Job summary

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team of phlebotomists working for the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for individuals with a good level of education and a determination to deliver high-quality compassionate care to our patients.

Our phlebotomy team delivers a high-quality patient-focused blood-taking service in a wide range of settings across Calderdale and Kirklees, including two hospitals, GP surgeries, out-patient services, community diagnostic centres and patients’ homes.

Qualifications
  • Evidence of a good level of education.
  • Determination to deliver high-quality compassionate care to patients.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Experience of working in a health care setting or a customer service focused role.
  • Previous experience in venepuncture desired (not essential; full training provided).
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements between hospital sites, community sites and patients’ homes.
  • Access to a vehicle for work purposes.
  • Manual dexterity, ability to be on feet throughout the shift and manoeuvre tight and cramped positions.
  • Flexibility to work a seven-day service, including bank holidays, between 08:00 and 20:00.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times.
  • Adhere to Trust Aseptic Non-Touch Technique Policy (ANTT).
  • Work unsupervised in hospital settings, community clinics and undertaking domiciliary (home) visits, along with business insurance.
  • Keep fully stocked phlebotomy trolleys, cupboards and drawers within blood collecting units and clinics and support stock-taking out in community settings.
  • Maintain work areas and trolleys, keeping them clean, neat and tidy.
  • Undertake surveys/audits when requested.
  • Attend to staff and patient queries, referring appropriately.
  • Comply with all Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Use a visual display unit to book appointments and access the Trust intranet, Q-pulse and work-related e-mails.
  • Commitment to work a seven-day service inclusive of bank holidays between 08:00 and 20:00; must be flexible to adapt to service needs.
  • Cover other staff when required.
  • Any duties as defined by the Phlebotomy Operations Manager and Team Leader in charge.

Relevant posts will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.
