Job description

This is an external vacancy and is not employment with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Personal Assistant required to support a young man, who is 21 with Asperger's syndrome (Autism). Support needed with independence, gaining confidence, and socialising in and around the local community.

The young man has a gentle, kind nature and enjoys swimming and visiting shopping centres. He does not like loud noises or being touched without warning, so the successful candidate will have the opportunity to build a strong and meaningful relationship and help this happy young man grow.

The young man needs guidance and support with his personal care and requires someone who understands Autism. The successful candidate will be supported by a kind and loving family.

We are seeking applicants who are friendly, flexible, patient, caring, and have a good sense of humour. Ideally, the candidate will share interests such as swimming and community outings. The candidate must be able to use their own initiative while ensuring an environment that maximises independence.

The candidate must be sensitive to the young man's needs, promoting privacy and dignity, and encouraging full participation in positive and meaningful activities that he enjoys.

Car driver with own vehicle and business use insurance is preferable.

The Direct Payments Support Service is an in-house service provided by East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The service promotes independent choice and inclusion, enabling service users to employ their own care and support staff. We support individuals with varying abilities, assisting with advertising and recruitment for roles including support workers, carers, and personal assistants.

Travel

Some travel across East Riding of Yorkshire may be required. Applicants must be able to transport themselves.
