Job description

The PCN Pharmacy Technician will work under the supervision of a Clinical Pharmacist and as an integrated part of the primary care team to ensure the safe, accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients. The role will contribute to successful clinical management of patients and is shared across the PCN.

Main duties of the job

The key responsibility of a PCN Pharmacy Technician is to ensure there is a centralised, safe and effective medicines optimisation process across PCN practices including:

  1. Repeat prescribing and repeat dispensing processes:
    • Implement PCN repeat prescription process: repeat interval for LTC and CD, read code for AMBER 3 and enter hospital only drug
    • Agree process for appliance requests e.g. stoma, continence, dressings and ACBS products
    • Electronic repeat dispensing (eRD) champion: support staff training and work with community pharmacy
    • Run searches and action MHRA CAS alerts
    • Support patient queries related to medicines
  2. Quality improvement projects and clinical audits:
    • Identify patients suitable for virtual clinics to support QIPP implementation
    • Identify patients who have not been issued anticoagulant/lithium/steroid/antiplatelet cards and ensure read code into the notes
  3. Health Innovation Network (HIN) Project e.g. BP@home, lipid management:
    • Identify patients and risk stratify using UCLP search templates on EMIS
    • Contact patients for up to date home BP if available
