Job summary

Arup is seeking a Pavement Design Engineer to join our Midlands-based team. You will contribute to pavement design and assessment across highways, aviation, and infrastructure projects, supporting from concept through to construction.

The role emphasizes collaboration, technical excellence, and delivering safe, sustainable infrastructure solutions. Ideal candidates bring experience in pavement design, National Highways standards, and strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience in pavement design, pavement assessment, or highway engineering projects.
• Knowledge of pavement design methodologies, materials, and construction practices.
• Experience applying National Highways standards and relevant UK pavement design guidance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• A collaborative approach and desire to work within a supportive, high-performing team.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking pavement design and analysis for highway, airfield, and infrastructure projects.
• Developing pavement maintenance, rehabilitation, and asset management strategies.
• Applying pavement design standards and guidance including National Highways requirements and industry best practice.
• Carrying out pavement condition assessments, investigations, and data interpretation.
• Producing technical reports, specifications, design calculations, and construction documentation.
• Supporting project delivery through all stages of design and construction.
• Collaborating with clients, contractors, and internal teams to provide innovative engineering solutions.
• Contributing to technical excellence initiatives, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement activities.
• Supporting junior engineers and helping develop technical capability within the team.
