Job summary

Arup is seeking Pavement Engineers at associate, senior and intermediate levels to join our Midlands team. You will work on pavement design, assessment, and asset management across highways, aviation, and infrastructure projects, delivering safe and sustainable solutions.

You will contribute to planning through construction, supporting junior engineers, and applying UK pavement guidelines with a collaborative, high-performing team.

Qualifications

• Experience in pavement design, pavement assessment, or highway engineering projects.
• Knowledge of pavement design methodologies, materials, and construction practices.
• Experience applying National Highways standards and relevant UK pavement design guidance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Collaborative approach and ability to work within a high-performing team.

We are seeking talented and motivated Civil Engineers specialising in Pavement Design (at all levels) to join our growing Midlands-based team. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside a collaborative and enthusiastic group of engineers, delivering technically challenging projects across highways, aviation, local authority, and infrastructure sectors. The successful candidates will play a key role in the planning, design, assessment, and rehabilitation of pavement assets, helping clients develop safe, sustainable, and resilient infrastructure solutions. This role is particularly suited to individuals who enjoy solving complex engineering challenges and are passionate about technical excellence.

Is this role right for you?

As a Pavement Design Engineer, you will contribute to a wide range of projects from concept development through to detailed design and construction support. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality technical outputs while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams across the business.

You will ideally have:

• A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.


• Experience in pavement design, pavement assessment, or highway engineering projects.


• Knowledge of pavement design methodologies, materials, and construction practices.


• Experience applying National Highways standards and relevant UK pavement design guidance.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.


• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.


• A collaborative approach and desire to work within a supportive, high-performing team.

Professional Accreditation

Applicants should either:

• Hold Certified Pavement Engineer (CPE) status recognised by National Highways, or


• Be actively working towards achieving Certified Pavement Engineer accreditation.


• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or progress towards chartership, would be advantageous.
