Job summary

Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust is advertising a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist (Band 6 or Band 7 depending on experience) on a 12-month secondment to cover maternity leave. The post focuses on stammering and selective mutism, with responsibilities across triage, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge for children and young people.

The role includes service development, clinical supervision, mentoring and delivering training.

Qualifications

• Specialist knowledge in stammering and selective mutism.
• Triage, assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment and discharge planning for paediatric caseloads.
• Involvement in service development and innovation in consultation with managers.
• Clinical supervision, shadowing, mentoring and second opinions for team members.
• Liaison with Team Lead to address service delivery issues and develop plans.
• Strong organisational, prioritisation and time-management skills.
• Ability to deliver training and create/ adapt training packages for the children’s workforce.

Responsibilities

• Provide highly specialist triage, assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment and discharge recommendations for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs.
• Assist in service development and innovation in collaboration with the team and managers.
• Provide clinical supervision, mentoring and second opinions to other team members.
• Liaise with Team Lead about delivery issues and develop improvement plans.
• Lead on development of policies, processes and pathways to enhance patient care.
• Deliver presentations and training on communication difficulties to the wider children’s workforce.
