Job summary

Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust is advertising a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist (Band 6 or Band 7 depending on experience) on a 12-month secondment to cover maternity leave. The post focuses on stammering and selective mutism, with responsibilities across triage, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge for children and young people.

The role includes service development, clinical supervision, mentoring and delivering training.

Qualifications

  • Specialist knowledge in stammering and selective mutism.
  • Triage, assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment and discharge planning for paediatric caseloads.
  • Involvement in service development and innovation in consultation with managers.
  • Clinical supervision, shadowing, mentoring and second opinions for team members.
  • Liaison with Team Lead to address service delivery issues and develop plans.
  • Strong organisational, prioritisation and time-management skills.
  • Ability to deliver training and create/ adapt training packages for the children’s workforce.

Job description

We're advertising an exciting opportunity for a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist (Band 6 or Band 7 depending on experience) to join our community team on a 12-month secondment to cover maternity leave.
We are looking for an innovator who is keen to develop and transform pathways to meet the needs of the changing landscape of Speech and Language Therapy.
The successful candidate will bring specialist knowledge and experience in stammering and selective mutism, supporting the delivery and ongoing development of these pathways as part of our wider paediatric Speech and Language Therapy offer.

  • Take your place with us providing highly specialist triage, assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment and discharge recommendations to a range of children and young people with speech, language and communication needs.
  • You will assist in service development and innovation in consultation with managers and other team members.
  • You will provide highly specialist support via clinical supervision, shadowing, mentoring and second opinions for the members of the team.
  • You will liaise with the Team Lead about any issues in service delivery and develop plans to manage these.
  • You will have excellent interpersonal skills to be able to communicate effectively with children and families, other team members and health and education staff.
  • You will lead on service development using your highly specialist knowledge and skills. This will include the development of policies, processes and pathways to enhance quality of patient care, in liaison with the Team Lead.
  • You will have excellent organisation and prioritisation skills.
  • You will implement, monitor and evaluate new ways of working, including providing audits/ outcome and progress reports on new workstreams.
  • You will have strong presentation skills and enjoy delivering training to the wider children’s workforce about a range of communication difficulties, including developing, evaluating and adapting training packages.
